Wetsuit vs Drysuit
Don't let your summer fun get ruined by getting cold. There are just too many adventures to be had, whether it's riding jet skis or wakeboarding behind jet boats! That's where wetsuits and drysuits help out. Both slow down heat loss so you can spend more time comfortably on the water. They each offer unique advantages and disadvantages, which we cover below so you can pick the right coverage for you. For all your personal watercraft needs, from jet boats to jet skis, visit Jet Ski of Miami. You'll find us in Miami, Florida.
Wetsuit
A wetsuit is made to keep you warm even though you are wet. It traps a small layer of water in between your skin and the suit. This means you will need to wear a normal swimsuit (or waterproof clothing) underneath the wetsuit.
The foamed neoprene in the wetsuit composition serves as insulation. You can expect a wetsuit to last for around five years.
A wetsuit is best suited for use in warm to moderately cold water. Think of summer fun wakeboarding behind jet boats or jet skis. The water is only a little cold, but you want extra protection when you are above water and feel the wind whipping against your body. You won't want to wear one when it's cold in the winter! But those moderate to cold summer days make for a perfect wetsuit experience.
To get the proper insulation, you will need a tight fit. This can make wetsuits difficult to put on. But they are also more comfortable to wear as they contour to your body. You can opt for accessories for even better protection, such as gloves, hoods, boots, etc.
Drysuit
A dry suit keeps you warm by keeping you dry. They keep out moisture, which helps them feel warmer than a wetsuit. Because of this protection from the water, you can actually wear normal clothes underneath them. This lets you layer up well in colder weather.
Drysuits are built from rubber that undergoes the same treatment process as rubber used to make car tires. They can also include foamed neoprene with additional watertight treatment.
A drysuit will be much more expensive and they require more maintenance (such as replacing seals). But they can also last up to 20 years. They also hold their value well if you decided to try to resell them.
Drysuits are best for colder days. They trap heat in so well that they could actually be uncomfortable in warmer weather. They are also easier to put on, partly due to their baggy shell. They offer a better range of motion once on as well. They will be heavier and bulkier to wear, but that's to be expected when you are getting such great water protection. Many people find drysuits too cumbersome for warm-water fun, like wakeboarding behind jet boats or riding jet skis in the summer. But on those cold days that keep others on shore, drysuits work well!
When it comes to summer fun, no one wants to be kept out of the water due to a little chill. A wetsuit or drysuit can enable you to hop in the water anyway and still have a great time.
